A Vista through the house into the garden and beyond forms the basis of this full refurbishment & extension in Claygate in Surrey.

A key part of our brief was to connect the whole house with the rear garden and park beyond. Through design conversations we developed this concept, creating a continuous vista off which all the various living spaces in the house hinged

Spaces in the house hinge of this main route breaking the house into different function. Level change brings scale and connects the house with the garden

Dropping down into the living room, the vista terminated in a large corner window seat, with a hidden exit into the garden.

The verandah, was a key feature as the clients were keen to enjoy the garden throughout the year.
The joinery was designed to hide the everyday life with choreographed nooks to display their art throughout the home.

From the onset, Ashvin form Variant drew us into his vision and brought our Victorian home in to the 21st century. We are continually amazed at the thought that went into all the details to give us a family home that fitted into all the criteria; light, warmth, spaces to show off our art work, spaces for the kids to play and grow in, a kitchen at the heart which allows the family to be a part of everything all the time. It also has places you can be still and reflective in. We could not have asked for more in terms of vision… and the fact that we now live in the vision is something we feel fortunate to be in. The children were involved in the initial conceptual stages and as a result feel very connected to the process and their spaces.
