Peace of mind

When you hire an architect, you have a professional on your side who knows the construction industry inside out. ‘Architect’ is a protected title, with a law requiring those who use it to be registered with the Architect’s Registration Board (ARB) after undergoing 7 years of architectural education and a minimum of a further 2 years working in the industry.

No other building professional is trained to such a high level of expertise in both design and construction.

Early consultation with us will allow us to get a real feel for your needs so that together, we can establish a clear brief and a realistic budget. This will reduce the overall design costs and ensure the project comes in on time and on budget, whilst also identifying and reducing any potential problems early on.

Developing the design

We work with you to develop designs that interpret your ideas imaginatively, maximise your investment, ensure your project is cost-effective and adds real value to your home. During this process we provide you with a wide range of ideas to discuss, develop and refine together.

The approvals process

We help you with the approvals process necessary for your project to go ahead, including the preparation of applications to the local authority for planning consent (where needed) and to obtain a Building Warrant for your project.

Construction phase

We guide you through the construction phase by helping you vet and select suitable builders, securing appropriate prices for construction, monitoring progress and standards, supervising safety on site, communicating with other specialists and overseeing construction through to its successful completion.

The Client/Architect agreement.

To create a solid foundation on which to build our working relationship, we set out the responsibilities of each party in a formal agreement. This agreement, based on the RIBA Standard Agreement 2010, will record the details of your project and services to be provided, the calculation of fees and expenses, confirmation of the appointment of any other consultants, our insurance cover, period of liability and dispute resolution procedures.


As we develop the design, we guide you through matters pertaining to statutory approvals. We also assist you in making the necessary submission for approval and handle negotiations with the statutory bodies.

The building contract

It is not uncommon for building projects to contain hidden surprises – for example, structural difficulties such as unexpected ground conditions – that could have an impact on the design and the building costs.

The best way to minimise the impact of any potential risk is to prepare a robust written contract, designed to manage such events whilst protecting your interests.

This document is vital for enabling your project, a legally binding commitment between your builder and yourself as the client. We make this easier for you by administering the contract on your behalf and ensuring that it follows established standards such as JCT contracts that you will be unlikely to be offered if dealing directly with a contractor.


Architects fees are a small part of the total cost of a construction project, and the construction cost is a small part of the overall cost of maintaining, running and owning the building throughout its life.

Our aim is to save you more than the cost of our fees by adding value to your project by increasing market value and reducing construction and running costs.

Our fees are a matter for negotiation with yourself following a site visit, initial meeting and once we have a better idea of what your needs are.

Architects fees reflect the degree of personal service and bespoke design that your project involves and the complexity of the project.

There are a number of methods architects use for calculating fees

  • Lump-sum fees
  • Time-charge fees

Following your consultation with us we will recommend an appropriate fee system for the job as well as providing a fee proposal outlining what we will deliver and all the costs involved.
